Takashi has more than 25 years of experience as a branding / customer experience professional and international business leader with top management experience in marketing agencies. After beginning his career as a content planner and writer, he spent 18 years at WPP agencies, including more than seven years at the Shanghai office of a leading global agency, supporting the rapid business growth of Japanese and international brands. In 2018, he joined Publicis Groupe to lead the launch of a bespoke agency dedicated to the digital transformation of a global automotive brand. He later held senior leadership roles across multiple agencies, serving as General Manager at a major international agency based in Tokyo and Managing Director at a digital agency. In Japan and China, his leadership contributed to multiple honors at Campaign Asia's Agency of the Year awards, including recognition in the Creative, New Business, and Production categories. Appointed President of McCann Erickson Japan Inc. and CRAFT Worldwide Japan Inc. in October 2023, he has since driven strong business momentum with a focus on strategic integration, creativity, and operational excellence. He also serves on the board of the Japan Advertising Agencies Association and as an advisory committee member for Advertising Week Asia. As the CEO of Omnicom Media Japan, Matthew leads the media and marketing solutions division of Interpublic Group, guiding advertisers to optimize their media investments for real business outcomes. Originally from the UK, Matthew commenced his professional journey in Barcelona at Spain's official Futures and Options exchange, gaining firsthand experience of how data, technology, and platforms were revolutionizing finance. Inspired by this experience, he returned to London and embarked on his digital advertising career, working at Conversant and later eBay. In 2009, Matthew was relocated to the APAC region, focusing on establishing the APAC headquarters for prominent U.S. ad technology companies such as Conversant and MediaMath. Transitioning from ad tech to the agency side in 2015, he assumed various leadership roles within WPP and IPG, catering to diverse verticals and serving some of the world's largest advertisers, including The Coca-Cola Company, P&G, Dyson, Amazon, Dell, Spotify, BMW, and many more. Between 2018 and 2021, Matthew was based in Tokyo and held the position of Japan Managing Director for Xaxis, WPP's digital activation unit. Commencing his career in PR and marketing, he subsequently spent almost 10 years as a writer and editor at The Mainichi, one of Japan's "big three" newspapers, followed by an award-winning stint at Omnicom's brand and media agencies in Tokyo. He has extensive experience of digital strategy and online media, invaluable skills he acquired as Business Director for PHD and OMD in Japan. His decade at the newspaper and several years of freelancing for Time and Fortune magazines taught him the golden principles of storytelling. Campbell joined Weber Shandwick in 2014 to spearhead the Japan office's digital and creative offerings. He built and championed the company's capabilities beyond traditional PR into influencer marketing, paid amplification and content marketing, demonstrating how to best leverage technology and harness the power of owned and social media to achieve business goals. After serving as EVP of Client Experience, during which time he "proselytized the need for creative and digital to be embedded in all our work," Campbell was appointed Managing Director of Weber Shandwick Japan in 2021. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Marketing & PR Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and was formerly Chair of the PR Committee at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan. Campbell lectures on Communications at schools and universities across Japan, and serves as a juror for industry award shows, including the PRWeek Awards, the Effies, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Communicative Public Relations Award.
